Introducing a view of history and culture, through the dynamic representation of memory and place, a view that is visual and experiential. It does not replace a scholarly historical narratives nor expert narratives, but it would open history and memories and the humanities to participation by the community who dwells on the site. Thoughts, feelings, perception, remembrance and actions are the elements of memories. These elements stack up in our brains gradually and ultimately become our memories which layered and re-emerge again in brand new way.
Now, how we can reshape the layers into space and program?
Rujak Center for Urban Studies presents International Field School 2020. Our third collaborative program between RCUS, Kampung Akuarium and Kyoto University. This series of workshop, open lecture and collaborative process will deep dive towards the issue of Culture and Common History of Kampung Akuarium.

Layers of MEMORIES : Our Common History
Memperkenalkan cara pandang baru terhadap sejarah dan kebudayaan melalui representasi dinamik dari memori dan tempat, sebuah cara pandang yang sangat visual dan mengandalkan ‘rasa’. Upaya ini tidak akan menggantikan narasi sejarah ilmiah atau narasi ahli, namun akan membuka sejarah dan kenangan baru proses partisipasi masyarakat yang tidak pernah terdengar. Pikiran, perasaan, persepsi, ingatan dan tindakan adalah elemen-elemen dari ingatan. Unsur-unsur ini menumpuk di otak kita secara bertahap dan akhirnya menjadi memori yang berlapis dalam diri kita dan muncul kembali dengan cara baru.
Sekarang, bagaimana kita dapat membentuk ingatan tersebut dalam ruang?
